HOPE THROUGH HEALTH

UPUCC 2025 featuring Kathy Austin’s Mom
20 Team Members

Meet my mother and first mentor, Phyllis Wallis. My mom was an obstetrical nurse who
practiced in her small hometown hospital for almost 50 years. She really dedicated her
life to making sure mothers and infants had the best care ever. She was ahead of her
time in focusing on personal, culture- sensitive care while also making sure the staff
were trained in maternal and neonatal emergencies. She also taught prenatal and
breastfeeding educational classes to promote success in all aspects of the childbirth
journey.
I followed in her footsteps and she would have been so proud that as a retired maternal-
child health nurse, I am now a committed Impact Global Health Alliance (IGHA and
formerly Curamericas Global) volunteer. I was introduced to this organization through
the long-term partnership of our church, UPUCC and I am so thankful. It was such a fit
because IGHA’s mission mirrors the goals my mother and I had in our practice here in
the U.S.
Please join Reed and me in contributing to this organization that saves lives of
extremely underserved mothers and babies throughout the world.
