As part of Church on the Street, WPUMC is partnering with Curamericas Global for the Mom-a-thon, our race to save lives. Read more about Curamericas Global and our goal below. Anyone can join this activity! Here’s what you do:

1) Pledge a number of miles you will walk during the month of May. https://forms.gle/yEUeZJcCTWNs9qECA

2) Invite your network of family and friends to sponsor your walk at $.5/mile $1/mile, $2/mile or even $10/mile+.

3) Starting May 1, be sure to WALK. Just doing your daily activities often leads to at least a mile of walking. When you are out and about, consider
wearing your red Church on the Street shirt.

– Our goal is $25,000 or about 50 people walking 1 mile a day for a month with $7/mile sponsored (or any combination thereof).

– $25,000 will provide salary support for FOUR nurses. See a photo of a nurse in Guatemala who is one of our leaders. Nurses like Alma save lives and lead others to ensure sustainable and evidence based change in some of the most complicated contexts in the world.

White Plains UMC first supported Curamericas in 1984.

Founded in 1983 at Lake Junaluska by a Methodist Missionary, Curamericas Global has worked to save the lives of women and children in forgotten communities. We have reached over 2 Million people in the most rural parts of Latin America and Africa across 40 years and seven countries. Today we also serve people in North Carolina. Nearly 5.9 million children will not see their fifth birthday due to preventable and treatable illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhea. We all know that good health directly affects education, income and family and community wellbeing, so Curamericas Global uses evidence-based solutions to bring about sustainable changes to the healthcare system in the communities with whom we partner.
