As you may know, I have been working with Impact Global Health Alliance (formerly Curamericas Global) for the last several years, and my role has been slowly expanding. My first experience with this organization was when I traveled to Guatemala in 2016. We visited a remote mountain area where the indigenous Mayan people live. They had developed Casa Maternas (maternal homes) in their communities to offer a safe and comfortable place for women to give birth with the assistance of trained nurses. The public health approach also provides pre and postnatal visits, health education, well check visits for children up to age 2, and women-led care groups that teach on important health topics like identifying the warning signs of dehydration or how to prevent pneumonia. Their work is extremely effective and has significantly reduced maternal and child deaths in these communities. That trip was so amazing, I knew that I wanted to continue to be involved with this organization. I’ve had the privilege of going back to Guatemala, as well as seeing the work that is being done in Kenya, where the need is extreme.
This year, in honor of Mother’s Day, your mother and all mothers around the globe, I’m asking you to join my momathon team “Above the Clouds” and donate what you can. You can honor that special woman/mother/maternal figure in your life. (If your company does matching gifts, please consider participating in this program. If you need to go through a specific process directly through your company, let me know so we can keep an eye out for the donation.)
Thank you for giving what you can. I sincerely appreciate it.

If you have any questions about the work or are interested in attending an event or joining a future trip, please let me know!
